WOMEN TEACHERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. (Per United Press .Association.) Wellington, May 13. Delegates to the New Zealand Women Teachers’ Association met, to-day. The following remits were carried:—That a start be made in New Zealand to provide a-sep-arate position for women in mixed schools of 600 pupils or more. Women shall be acknowledged the head of such and there shall be a separate infant mistress; That beginners .in the infant department be admitted to the school only during the first week .of each term and that provision be made so that a child whose birthday occurs in the mid-term may be admitted, if desired, at the beginning of such term; That infant departments be staffed on the basis of 30 pupils per teacher; That in view of the overwhelming evidence in favour of the principle of the open air school, the conference urges the necessity of remodelling old rooms or buildings as new, careful consideration to be given to the construction and placing of.windows so as to get the maximum of sunlight.
