NORTH CHATTON

ANNUAL CHURCH SOCIAL, On Friday evening of last week the church at North Chatton was filled to its utmost, when the annual social was held. The Rev. M. A„ Cow was in the chair, and had associated with him Mr. McFadgen, Home Missionary at Kelso, and the Rev. Hay of Knapdale. The function opened with the singing of “The Church’s one Foundation,” followed by scripture reading and prayer led by Rev. Gow. In his opening remarks Rev. Gow expressed pleasure at the large gathering, and hoped all would spend a happy and profitable evening, During the course of trhe evening excellent addresses were given by Mr. McFadgen and the Rev. Hay on "The- Church and Our Obligations to the Church.” The following programme was submitted: Anthem, choir; solo, Miss K. Johnston (encored); recitation, Mrs Styles (encored); solo, Mrs. J. McQueen; Anthem choir; duet, Mrs Turnbull and Miss Dripps (encored) ; recitation, Miss McEwan; solo, Mrs J. McQueen; recitation, Mr. Kirkpatrick (encored); solo, Miss K. Johnston; Anthem, choir. Accompaniments were played by Mesdames Thomsen, Rennie and McDonald. Before the singing of the Doxology, the Rev. Gow delivered a very earnest address urging the necessity for more prayer among his congregation and suggesting voluntary household prayer meetings. Mr. George Styles was then called upon to propose a comprehensive vote of thanks to all those who had assisted in making the social a success. Mr. George Aitken proposed a vote of thanks to the ladies. These were carried heartily by acclamation.
