COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER
DEAREST COUSINS, Just the teeniest note this week, or I’ll be getting growled at all over again for taking up too much room—what a splendid improvement, there has been in the page during the last month! First I want to thank the Mother’s Committee of the Cake Stall and tea rooms, and their husbands and friends who made the dance such a success on Tuesday evening. I'm sure everyone enjoyed it immensely, and the result was in all ways very gratifying. Also I want to thank Mr. Harvey and his splendid orchestra (seven players) who gave their services for the evening—the Music was one of the evening’s attractions, and on all sides I heard it being praised. And Mr. Amy I want to thank for acting as door-keeper—iir fact, there are so many people to be thanked I think I’d better stop before 1 start making a list. I’ll just say “Thank you, kind people,” and this is on behalf of all Little Southlanders, too. Now there’s a party for Little Southlanders and their friends—this week for grownups and over-grown Little Southlanders—next week for the children and nearly-grown-ups. The mothers of the Sweet Stall are giving a Mayfair party in the Girl Guides rooms, Dee street, on Monday evening next from 7 o’clock till 10, and you’ll see all about it in an advertisement on the front page of the paper. The Girl Guides rooms, in case any of you don't know, are up some stairs near Mr. Tail’s fish shop in Dee Street, and you may wear plain or fancy dress—why not your Mayfair costumes for the beginning of Mayfair week. There will be prizes for costumes, and prizes for games and competitions, so save up your pennies and bling them along for competition fees. The admission will be sixpence. Remember that the sugar-bag and cone (bazaar) competitions close next Tuesday (May 14). Best love, my dears, and have a good holiday,
