UNEMPLOYMENT
MONEY FOR CHRISTCHURCH. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, May 9. "Sir Joseph Ward has made to the city the greatest offer that has been made in regard to unemployment. He has offered £25,000 with absolutely no conditions except that it must be used locally on a £ for £ basis,” said the Mayor (the Rev. J. K. Archer) at the council installation ceremony. LOANS FOR WELLINGTON. Wellington, May 9. The City Council besides the £25,000 already set apart for special works which, are hung up by legal technicalities, has decided to raise a further loan of £20,000 for unemployed on which the Government subsidy will be £12,000. This is the only part of the scheme which can be started at once. A further £12,000 is included in the second schedule to be dealt with later.
