CIVIL AVIATION

FINANCIAL HELP SOUGHT. (Per United Press Association.) Napier, May 9. Mr. Wright of the Napier Aero Club waited on the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, in Napier this morning urging that the Government should give financial help for the encouragement of civil aviation. Mr. Wright said the progress of aviation in New Zealand would be much greater if inter related control from military and civil aspects was better. He made an appeal that when any finance was granted for aviation, the civil aspect should be taken into consideration.

Sir Joseph Ward in reply said everyone was sentimentally sympathetic towards aerial education but the country could not maintain a duplicated system of defence. The turn would come when aerial defence would have to be introduced but that time had not yet come. When that time came, the expenses would be more than a country of this size could stand, Civil aviation was a much more costly business than nioSt people realized. The Government had to take that into consideration. He said that the deputation’s request would be carefully considered by both the Minister of Defence and himself.
