SCOTTISH SOCIETY

CONCERT AT WOODLANDS. Under the chieftainship of Mr J. L. McG. Watson, St. Andrew’s Scottish Society of Invercargill gave a splendid concert at Woodlands on Friday last. This was in aid of the local public hall funds, and it is only fair to say that the entertainment was worthy of a much better attendance. Never, theless, the programme was given in its entirety and both quality and quantity delighted those who were present. The following contributed items: —Miss Thomson, Miss Schmidt, songs; Messrs Leckie, Sanson, Aitchieson, songs; Mrs Patton, . whistling solos; Mr Wood, recitations; piano selections, Mr Henry; pipe selections, Mr Taylor. Items were also given as follows by local performers: Woodlands Mouth Organ Band, selections; and the school children under Mr McCaw, schoolmaster. The whole was greatly enhanced by an interval for community singing led by Mr Watson in his capable manner. Those who had provided so excellent an evening were thanked by Mr J. R. Saxelby, and “Auld Lang Syne” and God Save the King terminated the concert. Thereafter supper was served, ami a short dance was held.
