The following information was issued by the Government Meteorologist last night:— The pressure is still very low east of the Dominion, the cyclone now being centred east of the Chatham Islands. An anticyclone over the Tasman Sea has been losing intensity. Winds are moderate to strong south-westerly winds reaching gale force at places on the East Coast, but decreasing later and veering to westerly in the South Seas. Seas are rough generally in New Zealand waters and the Tasman Sea, with moderate to strong south-westerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, veering to westerlies shortly in the central and southern portions. The weather is still cold and changeable with isolated showers, but is improving. There will be some, inland frosts in the South Island to-night.

On April 15, at Wellington, the Public Trustee was by the Supreme Court constituted administrator of the estate of Mary McGregor, late of Sprinhills, spinster.

Owing to an error, for which we were not responsible, the successes and entries of Mr S. M. Poynter at the recent collie dog trials at Lochiel were credited in the report appearing in the Southland Times to Mr G. Poynter.

A four-roomed dwelling in the borough, owned and occupied by Patrick Brosnahan, was gutted by fire on Friday evening. Only a piano and a few personal effects were saved. The building and its contents were insured, but the amount is not available, states an Ashburton Press Association message.

On account of the very real difficulty that is experienced at present in finding employment for boys, much interest, attaches to the address to be delivered on Tuesday evening by Mr F. W. Rowley, secretary of Labour, on the Government’s scheme to place boys on farms. During the afternoon Mr Rowley will place details of the proposals before representatives of the farming community and others interested at. a meeting to be held in Messrs Featherstone and Adamson’s, board room in the Crescent. The members of the Samoan Police Force who were detained when the Maui Poniare left the other day, went on by the Tofua on Saturday, having developed no signs of influenza, states an Auckland Press Association telegram.

An Auckland Press Association telegram states that two more men who are alleged ao be bookmakers, were arrested and remanded on £lOO bail till Monday, their names being William McMillan of 150 Hobson street, and Roy Thomas Tabrum of Wright’s Building.

The Invercargill Civic Band travelled to Tuatapcre on Sunday and gave a musical programme on the Domain (writes our Tuatapere correspondent). There was a fair attendance of the public, but a larger number would undoubtedly have attended had the fact that the band was giving a programme lx>en more widely known. The day was an ideal one and the local residents, as well as those excursionists who availed themselves of the opportunity, greatly appreciated the outing. The programme played was as follows:—March, “The Challenge”; fantasia, “Golden Memories”; selection, “Crown of Scottish Song”; cornet solo, “Silver Threads Among the Gold”; march, “Call of the East” euphonium solo, “Eclipse”; march, “Invercargill”; waltz, “Idle Hours”; march “Sempor Fediles.”
