MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

JURTHER ARRANGEMENTS MADE.

A meeting of the May Fair Committee was held yesterday afternon Mr W. Stevenson presiding over the following members: — Messrs W. F. Bisset, R. Thomson. G. Taylor, A. Dennison, J. Brass, W. George, J. A. Lyon, P. C. Hazledine, F. J. Robinson. F. Simpson. J. Young, A. Wachner, W. Alexander, F. W. Dixon, A. Sutherland, W. J. Carson, and Major 11. D. McHugh. The chairman reported that the A. and P. Association had very kindly granted the use of Ihe showgrounds for the opening of May Fair which is to be held on M ednesday, May 15. Requests were forwarded to the Borough Council to grant permission for the use of the streets and assistance in lighting and other necessary matters.

The secretary reported that the Railway Department would be supplied with full details of the programme at the earliest date possible so that arrangements for special trains could be made. A letter was received from Mr Rodan Thomson asking to be excused from attending further meetings of the committee this year on account of an extended visit to England. At the same time he expressed the belief that the carnival this year would be something to be remembered. He had been happy to be on the May Fair Committee where he had met so many public spirited men. The next meeting was fixed for Tuesday at 4 p.m.
