The death is announced of the Very Rev. Alfred Robertson Fitchett, aged 93, who was vicar of All Saints’ Church for 49 years, and retired last year. He was one of the best known Anglican churchmen and the most brilliant classical scholars in New Zealand.

Educated at, the Otago University the Very Rev. Alfred Robertson Fitchett obtained his degree of B.A. in 1878 and his degree of M.A. in 1882. At first he entered the Wesleyan Ministry, but afterwards joined the Anglican Church and was appointed Vicar of All Saints’ Church, Dunedin, in 1879. He was appointed Dean of Dunedin in 1894. He was a member of the Otago High School Board of Governors, occupying for a time the position of chairman and, for one year was professor of classics at Otago University. He was bishop’s commissary from 1906 to 1911, and was lecturer in classics at Selwyn College. He was the author- of “Evolution and Ethics,” and “The Christian Ministry: Whence Derived.”
