RAILWAY WORKS
PALMERSTON NORTH DEVIATION. TBANFER QF EMPLOYEES. (Per United Press Association.) Palmerston North, April 19. Work was commenced on the railway deviation to-day with the tearing up of the eight miles of track laid and the collection of materials for storage. Several officers have receiverl notice of their transfer to Gisborne and Nelson district.
Following the inquiries instituted, about 90 per cent, of the men have signified their willingness to transfer to other undertakings. Ten men are proceeding to Gisborne on Monday and 40 more by the end of next week.
There arc 150 general labourers employed on the deviation.
