POWER GRADER RAKE

ANOTHER SOUTHLAND IMPROVEMEN f. A SUCCESSFUL TRIAL. A practical demonstration of a new attachment to road graders was given at Mossburn on Wednesday. The attachment was made by Messrs Booth ?4acdonald and Co. Ltd., at their Invercargill factor}-, to the order of Mr H. I'. Blatch, of the Wallace County Council. Its purpose is to rake oversize gravel and boulders-from the highway to the side of the road. This it did to perfection. The demonstration was given on the main highway about 10 chains being scarified and then treated with the power grader rake. After a few strokes with this ingenious labour-saving device, the road was left in perfect order for the ordinary grader blade to crown and finish. The power grader rake is so constructed that all the binding material and small gravel is left on the roadway and the boulders and large stones are raked to the sides of the road. 'The power grader rake is attached to the grader in place of the usual blade. It is of very powerful construction, the teeth being marie from Syr by Searles' famous British tool steel, tempered to a glassy hardness at the working ends. The use of this power grader blade will mean better roads and big saving to the ratepayers. One machine will do the work of many men, and do it better. It is very gratifying to local pride to know that In-vercargill-made road machinery is in demand all over New Zealand, and this latest improvement is assured of immediate success.
