COUNCILLORS.
To the Editor.
Sir, —It is again the time for the election of Mayor and councillors and it is about time ratepayers paid attention to those who aspire to these positions. What we want are men who have no axe to grind, but work for the interest of ratepayers generally. I do not think the Power Board should have representation on the council, and as a ratepayer I will not vot-e -for any such. The interests are not identical. Again all business enacted by the council should appear in the public Press so that ratepayers can see what is going on. Some streets are nicely kept by the ratepayers independent of the council; other streets are condemned by the larger amount of money spent on them and looking little better than they were before. If more care is not taken of things in general this will be the most heavily rated town in New Zealand and don’t forget it. —I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
