COMING ELECTION

NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY INVERCARGILL BOROUGH ; ■ Nominations for the local body election on May 1 (mayoralty, council, harbour ant hospital board) close at noon to-day. S< far only one nomination (Mr John Miller’s has been received for the mayoralty, but a it is known that Councillor J. D. Campbel has consented to contest the seat, it is cer tain that his nomination will be received to day. Ten candidates have been nominated foi the 12 council seats, new names bein; those of Messrs A. F. Hogg, I. L. Petrie, A J. Ball and F. G. Hall-Jones. It is under stood, however, that at least three, othe; nominations will be forwarded—Messrs H J. Macalister, G. R. Cooper and J. H. Tat. tersfield. Following are the nominations receiv ed:— Mayoralty. John Miller, nominated by Messrs J. L McG. Watson. Charles Provan, John H Kiseell, F. W. Freddy, Alfred W. Jones, G R. BOROUGH OF BLUFF. NO ELECTION NECESSARY. MAYOR AND COUNCIL RETURNED. No municipal elections will be necessary’ at Bluff this year as only one nomination has been received for the office of Mayor and the required nine for the councillors seats. Dr James Torrance, the present Mayor, who has also occupied that position previously, is declared re-elected for a term of two years. The council, identical with the old council, is comprised of: Alfred Ernest Budd, John Cameron. William Bolasses Dixon, George Richard George, James Cameron Imlay’, William Henry Cook Johnston, James Scott Allison McDougall, Archibald Campbell McKillop, and Horace William Newman. Mr J. S. A. McDougall is returned unopposed to the Hospital Board. but an election will be necessary for representation on the Bluff Harbour Board Messrs W. B. Dixon, the sitting member, and J. Cameron having both been nominated. RIVERTON BOROUGH. DR TROTTER RE-ELECTED MAYOR. COUNCIL NOMINATIONS. Dr Ninian G. Trotter was re-elected unopposed as Mayor of Riverton. For one member to represent the combined district of Riverton Borough, Otautau Town District and .Nightcaps Town District on the Wallace and Fiord Hospital Board only one nomination, that of Mr J. C. Thomson, was received. He will therefore be appointed. Three councillors are required for the North Ward and three for the South Ward of Riverton Borough. For the North Ward Messrs A. E. Willett. J. Hymers, W. E. Prentice and R. J. Walker have been nominated; and for the South Ward Muss Hunt and Messrs Arthur Martin, Tracey King, G. Dickson, E. B. Patrick and F. J. Ashley. Winton. Nominations for the offices of Mayor and councillors of the Winton Borough do not close until to-morrow. DUNEDIN. (Per United Press Association.) Dunedin, April 17. Messrs R. S. Black, J. S. Douglas and C. W. Hayward (councillors). John McDonald and Frederick Jones (Labour! have been nominated for the city mayoralty. For the council 34 nominations have been announced for the twelve seats including all the sitting councillors, except the three for the mayoralty. GREYMOUTH. Grey mouth, April 17. The Mayor (Mr Greenslade) is unopposed. There are 11 nominations for nine seats on the council, seven for three seats on the Power Board and six for four on the Hospital Board. PETONE. Wellington, April 17. The Mayor of Petone (Mr D. McKenzie) has been returned unopposed as Mayor. HASTINGS. Hastings, April 17. For the mayoralty Messrs G. C. Lowe, G. McKay, S. J. McKee and G. F. Roach have been nominated. Thirteen nominations have been received for nine seats on the borough council, four for two seats on the harbour board, seven for two seats on the hospital board and four for three seats on the power board. PALMERSTON NORTH. Palmerston North, April 17. Mr A. J. Graham, sitting Mayor, and Mr R. Edwards ex-Mayor, have been nominated for the mayoralty. Sixteen nominees will contest, the nine seats on the council.
