WOMAN IN DISTRESS

ADVENTURE IN NEW HEBRIDES.

(Per United Tress Association.)

Auckland, April 16.

Bishop Molyneux who arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa is associated with a story of adventure in the New Hebrides several months ago.

He was informed that a French recruiting vessel was taking away against her will a native woman. He asked the captain to release the woman and the captain dared him to set foot on the vessel but the bishop did so, brushing aside the gun which was stated to have been levelled at his head. He had an arm injured by a club.

The woman jumped into the bishop’s boat and was carried home in triumph.
