SHIPBUILDING IN BRITAIN

TONNAGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION

London, April 16

A revival of the shipbuilding is indicated in Lloyds Register of Shipping showing that 1,357,000 tons were being constructed in Great Britain and Ireland of March 31 and 1,480,000 tons abroad. The increases were 114,000 tons and 105,000 tons respectively compared with March 31 last year. The figures for Great Britain and Ireland comprise 200,000 and for the British dominions 188,000 tons for sale or for foreign shipowners. The tonnage commenced in Great Britain and Ireland was 362,000, a decrease of 69,000 tons compared with December 31, and the tonnage launched was 289,000, while abroad 298,000 tons were commenced and 214,000 tons launched. The tanker tonnage being constructed was 331,000, showing a further reduction.
