LUMSDEN NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday a football match between Lumsden and Dipton was played at the Recreation ground. As a result of the recent rain the ball was difficult to handle, making a good display of back play impossible. The home side was successful in winning by 13 points to 3. For the winners Mcßride and Patterson scored tries, while D. Ogilvy potted a goal. Dipton secured the three points from a penalty, which was converted by Murtagh. Mr L. McKenzie was referee. The competition in the Northern District will commence on Saturday, but the Lumsden team has drawn a bye and a return match has been arranged with Dipton. The club has lost the services of several of the older players this year, but there are plenty of young enthusiasts available. U. Crosbie is turning out again and with the experience gained from the sub-union tour he should be of assistance to his side. Wellman aud A. Johnson, two other Northern District players, are also available. G. Cun-, ningham, J. Crawford, G. Tomlin, F. Earl, last year’s Northern District players, will not be available, and their places will be filled by younger players. Golf. On Saturday the Lumsden Golf Club will hold its opening day, when a mixed foursome will be played. The following is the draw, and as the number of lady players exceeds the number of men available for Saturday, arrangements will be made on the ground for the lady members not mentioned in the draw as appears below: Mrs McAlister and F. Thomson v. Mrs Thomson and R. Key; Miss McAlister and R. Scott v. Miss Brothcrst.on and S. Steven; Mrs Biggar and J. Ogilvy v. Miss Mullan and M. Reidy; Mrs Brown and P. Jenks v. Mrs Campbell and W.
