LONDON MARKETS. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has receiver! the following cable from its London office, dated April 12, advising Smithfield delivered prices averaged for week ending that date as follows: — (Prices for the previous week are also shown).

Lambs: Market firm with better prices. There is a better tone prevailing on market. Mutton: Market firmer. More interest is being taken in heavier weights. New Zealand Beef: Stocks exhausted. Higher prices ruling for chilled beef is helping demand for lamb and mutton. New Zealand Porker Pigs: Market keeps firm. New Zealand Baconer Pigs: There is a good demand for small stocks available.

Messrs Henderson and Company, Ltd., report having received the following cable advice from Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Ltd., their London principals, under date 16th instant:—Butter market very weak. To-day's prices 164/-, 165/-. Cheese also weak. To-day's prices: White 88/-; coloured 90/-.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report ’having received the following advice from their head office, London, under date of April 16 :— Butter: Market very dull. The following prices are quoted: New Zealand finest salted 162/- to 164/-; Australian finest salted 156/- to 160/-. Cheese.—Market quiet. The following prices are quoted: New Zealand white 87/to 88/-.; coloured 90/-. Tallow: At. to-morrow’s sale a fall in price of 6d to 1/- is expected. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. Messrs Donald Reid and Company, Limited, Dunedin, report as under:— Oats: The recent rains took their toll of the grain crops in this district. Both oats and wheat that promised so well before the flood are now arriving in poor condition. B grade and undergrade are now offering more freely, but sales are not taking place with any freedom. Heavy oats suitable for milling are worth up to 3/1, ordinary A grade to 2/11; B grade‘2/8, sacks extra, on truck, country stations.

Chaff: The demand still remains about the same. Probably next month, when the frosts appear, the inquiry will improve. Y’alues are easier, if anything. Prime quality is worth £5 10/- sacks extra, ex truck, Dunedin. Medium and inferior are practically unsaleable. Potatoes: Consignments are arriving in excess of the demand, and only .good quality tables arc inquired for. Lines that have been saturated with water or Mighty are unsaleable. Best tables are realizing up to £5 5/- ex truck, sacks in.

Wheat: Forward purchases are arriving freely, and as a lot of these are in a soft condition, a larger proportion of rejections are taking place than usual. Free wheat is also offering and pool members are also submitting samples. Local millers are busy taking in consignments and the market on the whole is quite animated. Fowl wheat will now be in more plentiful supply than was anticipated earlier in the season. Prices to-day are as follows: —Tuscan 5/8, Hunters 6/-, Y 7 elvet 6/6, sacks extra, ex truck, country stations.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Dunedin, report as follows: — Oats: The demand continues good for oats of milling quality which, fortunately, represent the bulk of the samples coming to hand. These are saleable at 3/1 on trucks. Very little shipping is being done and shipping oats are not changing hands at present. Quotations are: A grade Gartons 2/9 to 2/11; B grade Gartons 2/6 to 2/8.

Wheat: A few samples are coming to hand of pool wheat, which are mostly being purchased at the prices fixed by the wheat pool. Any available free wheat is being bought at the following prices:—Tuscan 5/8, Hunters 5/10 to 6/-, Velvet 6/4 to 6/6, all on trucks, country sidings, sacks extra. „

Chaff: Ample supplies are arriving to meet the demand which is not heavy and values remain unchanged. Best oaten sheaf is realizing up to £5 10/- ex truck Dunedin, sacks extra. Potatoes: The market is at present fully stocked and has eased slightly since our last report. Best tables are realizing up to £5 5/- ex truck, sacks in.
