ENTHUSIASM GROWS FURTHER ARRANGEMENTS MADE NOVEL SCHEMES UNDER REVIEW The May Fair'movement is gaining enthusiasm as rapidly as a snowball gathers snow, and the meeting of the committee yesterday afternoon was attended by a spirit of optimism and keenness. Although only the initial arrangements are being made, it can already be seen that the programmes for the various days will be full of fun and interest to all. At the committee meeting yesterday, the president, Mr W. Stevenson, presided over the following members: Messrs R. Thomson, B. C. Galloway, F. W. Dixon, A. Watt, P. C. Hazledine, J. A. Lyon, J. A. McPherson, A. Wachner, W. W. Millar, J. Brass, P. Witt, F. J. Robinson, A. Dennison, 0. Rice, W. F. Bisset, W. George, J. Young, J. Cameron, B. C. Ayling, W. Alexander, F. Simpson, C. A. Davis, E. Simpson, A. L. Adamson and Major McHugh. The appointment of Mr L. S. Graham to the secretaryship was confirmed. Comment was made on a report appearing in the Otago Witness, criticizing the May Fair, and the chairman was requested to communicate with the management of the paper and ask for an explanation of the report. The chairman reported having conferred with the Invercargill Racing Club and the A. and P. Association, and the Racing Club was quite prepared to co-operate with the two other bodies in 1930 when it hoped to run a race meeting during the May Fair week. A night procession was definitely fixed for Thursday at 7 o’clock, and it was also decided that an axemen’s carnival should be held in the showgrounds on the Saturday, 'fhe chairman reported that several of the leading axemen were keen on the matter and were prepared to undertake the arranging of it. A Children’s Pet Parade would also be held the same afternoon, if wet, in the Drill Hall. It was decided to ask the Rugby Union to assist by arranging, perhaps, a fancy dress football match on the showgrounds on the Saturday. Major McHugh said that arrangements were well in hand for the fancy dress balls, and a hall had been arranged for the Friday and Saturday nights. A suggestion to hold fancy dress balls in the suburbs was also being considered. The next meeting was fixed for Friday at i p.m.
