The secretary reported that the manual training echool would open on Wednesday, and that all the material had now arrived for the dental clinic. The rector reported that five boys had been caught in the school on Sunday and had broken one of the typewriters, which had been recently overhauled. The water gauge had also been damaged, as well as sundry other damages. The names of the boys had been handed to the police. The erection of a platform in the secondary department for Shakespearean' work was left in the hands of Mr R. Richardson to arrange. Edendale News. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Edendale Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, the chairman, Mr W. Irving, presiding. M. McDonald applied to have the street cleaned and concreted under the verandah of her shop, in Hunter street, a distance of about half a chain, and advising that she would be willing to pay half the cost of the work. On the motion of Commissioners Chaplin and Milne it was resolved to put down the path without a channel for the distance applied for. It was decided to ask W. Shields to see that the top of the rubbish pit was cleared. The clerk was instructed to write to the Railway Department drawing their attention to the dangerous position in which a hoarding had been placed. As the crossing was very dangerous the board did not wish the view further obscured by the erection •of such hoardings. Bowls. The Edendale Bowling Club officially closed the 1928-9 season on Wednesday afternoon, when close on twenty bowlers, including visitors from Invercargill, and Wyndham clubs were present. The afternoon was devoted to a progress double tournament. Five games of seven heads were played, the last of which were concluded at 7 p.m. in the electric light. The greens were in perfect order, and the winners proved to be Messrs R. Papps (skip) and T. Marshal (lead). At the end of the tourney the president, Mr T. Hickey, presented the winners with prizes, as well as a “booby” prize to Mr Cassels. Messrs F. Stevenson (Invercargill) and D. Macpherson (Wyndham) in turn replied for their respective clubs. Wyndham Football Club. The annual meeting of the Wyndham Football Club was held on Thursday evening, Mr A. A. Wilson, senior, presiding. The annual report stated that the prospects of the club for the ensuing year in the successful running of first and second grade teams in the Eastern District competitions were decidedly faint, as at the present time very few players were in sight. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of 12/-.

The president, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said the position was not as pleasing as it might have been. The season had commenced well, especially so in regard to the first grade fifteen, but owing to the disregard of practice and training went to pieces. In this respect it was no good one or two training, as they had to carry all the responsibility of the team in matches.

The motion was seconded by Mr E. Sherbourne who, in referring to the financial postion of the club, said the trouble was that the subscriptions were not forthcoming. He had never been approached for his subscription and he felt it was the same with other inactive members.

The secretary said he did not feel disposed to approach honorary members for subscriptions, if active members could not pay up.

The motion was finally carried unanim ously.

The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr A. A. Wilson, snr., vice-presidents, Mes.«rs W. J. Marsh, E. Sherbourne, M. Tangney, C. E. Davey, W. 0. C. McKay, A. H. Jones, R. It was resolved that Monday and Friday nights be practice nights, and that the opening day be fixed for Wednesday, April 17. It was decided that the subscriptions be 5/for senior players over 18 years, and 2/6 for junior players under 18 years; all subscriptions to be paid before the first fixture match. Seven new members were elected. After some discussion it was decided to enter second and third grade teams in the competition. It was resolved that a manager be appointed to travel with each team and that the manager of the third grade team be recommended to see that the team returned home, when playing away, immediately after the conclusion of the match.
