RUGBY FOOTBALL
EASTERN DISTRICT SUB-UNION. EXECUTIVE MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) A meeting of the management committee of the Eastern District Rugby Sub-Union held last evening was attended by Messrs C. D. McConnell (chairman), G. Whittingham, J. W. Aitken, F. M. Murray, F. O’Kane, I. Martin, H. G. Wallis, J. M. Boyne, R. S. Green, J. Lenihan and R. Blair. Correspondence. The Southland Rugby Union advised that the sub-union’s challenge for the Southland Amateur Sports Cup at present held by Northern, would be the first match for this trophy.—Received. The following clubs advised that they would be entering teams in the various grade competitions as followsPukerau, second grade; Seaward Downs, first grade; Albion, first, second, third and fourth grades. The Albion Club applied for permission for its first grade team to play a match against Waikaka at Waikaka on April 17, and also to play a match against Blues at Invercargill on April 24.—Granted. The Mataura Club applied for permission for its first grade team to play a friendly match with Pirates first grade team at Mataura on April 13.—Granted. The following applications for transfer were received: —A. Scobie, from the Balfour to the Mataura Club; H. Guy from the Zingari Club, Timaru, to Albion; J. D. C. Groves from the Union Club, Dunedin, to Albion; R. Sharp from the Mataura Club to Albion; E. R. Pearce from the Taieri Club to Albion; W. J. Tither from the Edendale to Albion; J. Scott from the Balclutha Club to Albion. The applications were granted subject to clearances being in order. Sub-Committees. The following sub-committecs were appointed:— Permit—Messrs McConnell, Whittingham and Green. Postponement—Messrs Whittingham, Wallis Senior and Green. Referees’ Appointment—Messrs Whittingham and Murray. Fixtures—Messrs O’Kane, Martin and Green.
