“DRY” AMERICA

MR HOOVER’S CAMPAIGN

FORCING RESPECT OF THE LAW

START IN OFFICIAL CIRCLES

(United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 7.45 p.m.) Washington, March 5. It is announced that the first step in Mr Hoover’s attempt to render the nation "dry” would be an effort at a “dry ’ Washington by means of forcing respect of the law among official circles by the great social power of White House. It is generally understood that Cabinet members and their assistants will be asked not to serve liquor in their homes nor drink in homes where it is served. It is believed that such a request would make it embarrassing for hosts to serve liquor in the capital, and the probable result would be a great lessening of drinking in official circles. The same request is expected to be made to Federal judges and Federal district attorneys, extending the new system beyond the capital.—Australian" Press Association.
