CHINESE FACTIONS

HOSTILITIES THREATENED.

HANKOW AND NANKING.

(Rec. 11.40 p.m.) Shanghai, March 6. Hostilities are threatened in this part of China, culminating almost a year of disagreement between Hankow and Nanking factions. The Nanking faction, representing the recognized Nationalist Government, is mobilizing a large force in anticipation of attacks from Hankow. Dozens of Chinese merchantmen in Shanghai and vicinity have been forcibly commandeered, inflicting enormous losses on the companies. Several Nanking controlled gunboats left Shanghai en route to the lower Yangtse.

The refusal of local money changers to accept notes of the Central Bank of China to-day is regarded as significant of impending trouble. The downfall of the Government, which has unceasingly bled the populace and imposed a mailed fist regime, will not be unwelcome in many quarter. —Australian Press Association.
