MONEY BY FRAUD
EXTENSIVE PRACTICE IN AUCKLAND. (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, January 16. Evidence of an extensive practice of obtaining money from the Auckland R.S.A. by fraud has"been obtained by the police. Three arrests were made this week and other charges are pending against the accused. To-day William Laurence Bowler pleaded guilty to obtaining 17/6 by falsely representing that a receipt for 35/- was valid. The Chief Detective said Bowler was met in Auckland by a soldier who evidently knew the run of the ropes and a receipt was prepared for one and a-half day's work, entitling the accused to a payment of 17/6 from the association on the subsidy system. Two others are at present; awaiting sentence, and all three are to' come up on January 22, the Magistrate, Mr McKean, remarking that they seem to have discovered an easy way of getting money.
