JUDGE SHOT
SERIOUS WOUND INFLICTED. SENSATION IN PARIS FLAT. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Paris, December 22. A young man, gaining admission to the flat of M. Fachot, a Judge of the Supreme Court, pulled out a revolver, fired three shots and then bowed to Madame Fachot, who had thrown herself on her knees beside her fallen husband. En route to the street the stranger encountered a tenant below who asked if he had heard shots. He replied coolly: “Yes. Someone must have committed suicide. I am in a hurry.” He later surrendered to the police, giving his name as George Benoit. He confessed that his motive was revenge ; Fachot having been public prose- : cutor in Alsace in treason trials early in the year. The Judge was seriously wounded in the abdomen. —Australian Press Association.
