The Dominion Meteorologist last night issued the following information: —The anticyclone is now centred east of New Zealand. Pressure is commencing to fall in the eastern Tasman Sea under the influence of a depression advancing slowly from the westward. Moderate to strong north to west winds, freshening to gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait. Seas rather rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Foveaux Strait. Elsewhere smooth to moderate. Moderate to strong northerly to westerly and later backing to southerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea with rough seas. Weather still fair to fine in the eastern districts but becoming cloudy and unsettled in western and central districts with showers developing and later extending to other parts. Warm temperatures but later a cool change. Owing to exceptionally heavy traffic the express was an hour and a-quarter late on reaching Invercargill on Saturday evening. The Postal Department advises that the mail via Vancouver which left Invercargill on November 17 arrived at London on December 20. An Auckland Press Association message states that an important real estate transaction was completed on Saturday in the sale of the Arthur Myers’ residence “Cintra” and its 5« acres. The property was the only remaining large block in the city area under private ownership. The purchasers are the Fletcher Trust and Investment Company, Ltd., of Wellington, who propose forming a garden residential area. In an interview with an Otago Daily Times representative Mr J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., who returned to Dunedin last week from a world tour, had a word to say in respect to the excellent conduct of the Borstal Institute at Invercargill. He stated that he had visited similar institutions in England, which were being conducted on the most approved lines and the institution at Invercargill compared most favourably with them in the matter of its methods of treatment and results achieved. A meeting of the Bluff Regatta Committee was held on Saturday, Mr V. Metzger presiding. A letter was received from R. Hamilton concerning the running of excursions by the Awarua on Regatta Day. A committee was appointed consisting of Mr McQuarrie, the president and secretary to finalize arrangements in this respect. Several letters were received from various clubs dealing with entries for sailing and rowing events. It was decided to write to the Bluff Borough Council thanking it for the facilities placed at the committee’s disposal on Regatta Day. It was decided to hold a further meeting on Friday next when the draw for positions in the rowing events will take place.

In the Children’s Court on Saturday morning, a young girl, alleged to be not under proper control, was committed to the care of the Child Welfare Superintendent. Fire destroyed early on Saturday morning (says a Greymouth Press Association telegram) a seven-roomed house at Dunollie, occupied by J.
