SMOKELESS FUEL

IMPORTATION FOR RAILWAYS. STATEMENT OF EXPLANATION. (Per United Press Association.) Westport, November 2. In reference to the Press reports regarding the importation of smokeless fuel for the New Zealand railways, Mr. Gerald Hamilton, Attorney of the Sensile Heat Distillation, Ltd., of London, who is at present in Westport, wishes to make it perfectly clear that his company has no intention of importing L. and N. fuel into New Zealand. The sole object of his visit is to discover to what extent the L. and N. process can be developed in the Dominion by treatment of New Zealand lignites and bituminous coals. The regotiations to which references have appeared in the Press were in reference with their policy and related to supplying part of the New Zealand railways needs with smokeless L. and N. fuel made from New Zealand coal.
