SELLING SON’S BODY
CHARGE AGAINST MOTHER. A grim story of a mother who tried to make money out of the body of her son was told by the Federal Autorities in Los Angeles in the case against Mrs Alice Sawyer, who was arrested for an alleged mails fraud. Mrs Sawyer had a son, Theoron, who died some years ago. Six months after the body of the youth was found to be petrified. The police state that his mother conveived the idea of selling the body to scientists, but instead of making a direct offer, they allege that she wrote letters through the post inviting people to lend money on a plan to sell the body, claiming that large sums had been offered for it. By this scheme, the police state, two people were persuaded to part with more than £6OOO in an effort to obtain an easy return on their investment.
