FARMERS’ UNION
POLITICAL AFFAIRS STATEMENT BY MR POLSON FUNDS NOT USED (Par United Press Association.) Wellington, October 16. An emphatic denial that the funds of the Union were being used to further his candidature was made by Mr W. J. Polson at the executive meeting of the Dominion Farmers’ Union. He said the allegation had been made by his opponents and definitely made by the Minister of Lands in an open letter to the Press in Taranaki. He had not used the Union in any way. He was standing as an individual and his candidature had nothing to do with the Farmers’ Union. “You know me well enough to know that all through I have kept the organization out of politics,” he said. Mr Morrison (Wanganui) confirmed what Mr Polson had said. Mr Morrison said he was one of the political committee set up twelve months ago and Mr Polson above all others was the one who kept the Union out of politics. Mr Polson also repudiated any connection with the Country Party. He met nobody at Rotorua and took no part in any selection. A motion was passed that the executive had the fullest confidence in Mr Polson in his carrying out to the letter the constitution of the Farmers’ Union. , 1
