Mr. R. B. Stiven travelled to Christchurch by the through express yesterday. The Hon. A. F. Hawke, M.L.C., returned to Invercargill by the express last night. Mr. John Hamer, the representative of the Fuller-Gonsalez Grand Opera Company, left Invercargill by last night’s express. Messrs W. A. Ott find J. B. Reid left for Dunedin by last night’s express to attend a conference of the Stockbrokera’ Association. Mr. Cheriton, manager of the Milford track, is at present in Invercargill making arrangements for the coming activities on the track. Mr. R. Matheson arrived in Invercargill by the express last night from the meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee. Mr. K. Jones, late of Auckland, arrived in Invercargill by last night’s express to take up the position of assistant engineer to the Southland County Council. The death has taken place at the age of 85 (says a British official wireless message) of Sir Edward Ridley, who was for 20 years a judge of the High Court. Mr. G. T. Wilson, chief clerk of the headquarters staff, New Zealand Railways, arrived in Invercargill on departmental business by last evening’s express. St. Paul’s congregation, Feilding, has decided to send an unanimous call to the Rev. D. Raeburn McDonald, of Clevedon.— Palmerston North Press Association message. The New Plymouth Hospital Board yesterday appointed Dr. C. R. Burns, of Dunedin, resident physician at the New Plymouth Hospital.—Press Association message. The Rev. R. B. Ogsnell has been appointed chairman of the New Plymouth Hospital Board in succession to the late Mr. Murdoch Fraser—Press Association message. Mr. W. E. Hazlett, Southland’s All Black, will be tendered a complimentary dinner this evening by the Pirates Football Club, of which he has been a member for several seasons. Through the courtesy of the Pirates Club the Southland branch of the Waitaki Old Boys’ Association is joining in the welcome home to Mr. Hazlett.
