WAIKAKA NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.) The weather has been anything but pleasant of late and fierce gales with heavy rain have been experienced almost every day. On Wednesday evening the Tennis Club held its final social evening. Although there was not such a large attendance as usual a very enjoyable time was spent in cards and dancing. After supper had been handed round, Mr W. Asher on behalf of the Tennis Club presentecl a tray (donated by Miss Green) to Miss H. Turnbull for the highest number of games for the ladies and a shaven- outfit (donated by the Tennis Club) to Mr M. Kelly for the highest number of games for the gentlemen. Music for dancing was supplied by Messrs Broom and Ritchie (McNab). The Misses Corcoran have been spending a few days in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Coakley, Invercargill, returned home during the we6k. Miss McLeod (Heriot) who is on sick leave is staying with her mother, Mrs McLeod, postmistress. Inspectors Hunter and Service stayed in the township during the week and visited the district schools. Mrs Elder (Waimate), who has been giving interesting demonstrations to the members of the Women’s Institute during the week, was the guest of Mrs F. Gutschlag (Greenvale) while .in’the district.
