REVOLVER DUEL
POLICE SERGEANT AND ROBBERS. EXCITEMENT IN SHANGHAI. Shanghai, October 12. Another typical affray is causing Shanghai to be known » the Chicago of the Orient. To-day Chinese armed robbers stormed the industrial area in the western district, held up the accountants’ departments, and departed with 8000 dollars. The Japanese manager conveyed the information to the police, and, accompanied by Sergeant Hutton, an Englishman, discovered three men along the road. An exciting revolver duel then took place, Hutton single-handed returning the fire. Two were captured and part of the money recovered. This is the third or fourth time Hutton has distinguished himself in pistol duels with armed Chinese ruffians. Previously in one battle he killed four armed kidnanners.—United Service.
