GORE CHAT (From Our Correspondent.) Miss Rogers, who has been the guest of D.-.and Mrs Rogers, has returned to Invercargill. Mrs W. Johnston has returned to Invercargill. Mrs A. J. Hawke has returned from Wellington. Miss Fay McHutchison went to Dunedin for the week-end. Miss H. C. Mac Gibbon has returned from Christchurch. Mrs Leech, Invercargill, is on a visit to Mrs 11. A. Price, Denton street. Mrs H. Parat.a, Queenstown, is spending a few days with Miss Gladys Taylor, Ardwick street. Miss Rita Douglas was hostess at a very successful “kitchen” evening in honour of Miss Olive Sim (who is shortly to be married) at the Gaiety Hall on Tuesday last when a large and useful collection of kitchen utensils was received by the popular guest of honour. Mr and Mrs A. S. Fleming are spending a few days in Oamaru. The Play Reading Circle held their fortnightly meeting at the Soldiers’ Club Rooms on Thursday evening, October 4, when the following plays were read, “Acid Drops,” “Suppressed Desires” and “Pros and Cons.” Those taking part were “Acid Drops,” Mesdames Houston, Conolly, Rutherford, Thomson, Misses Ida and Mabel Mac Gibbon. “Suppressed Desires,” Mesdames Boyne, Dunham and Thomson. “Pros and Cons,” Mesdames Houston, Boyne, and Miss Ida Mac Gibbon. Fine weather favoured the Gore Ladies’ Golf Club on Thursday for the closing day of the season, and there was a large attendance of members and friends. The trophies for the season were presented by Mrs R. Fisher (wife of the president), assisted by the club captain, Miss S. Inder. who made a neat little speech. Waddel is at present visiting relatives in Wellington. She is not expected to return for about two months. The Bluff citizens’ dance was held in the new Municipal Hall on Monday evening last over 150 couples attending. Stewarts’ orchestra supplied excellent music and Mr A. LUMSDEN NOTES (From Our Correspondent.) On Wednesday, Mr and Mrs J. Marshall, “Hilltop,” gave a social evening in the Masonic Hall in honour of the coming of age of their daughter Lena. About forty guests assembled in the hall, where a most enjoyable evening was spent. After indulging in a few games and competitions, those present sat down to a banquet which had been prepared in the social hall. The wellladen tables were artistically arranged, and the hall was beautifully decorated with coloured streamers. After the loyal toast, the health of the guest was proposed and received with musical honours. The customary gold key was presented and several speakers wished Lena future happiness. Musical items were given by Messrs J. Asher, A. Bissett and C. Belsham. Miss Dulcie Sutherland officiated at the piano. An adjournment was then made to the dance hall, where the remainder of the evening was spent at dancing, the music being supplied by Sutherland’s Orchestra.
