SAFETY IN MINES

RESEARCH WORK FURTHER FACILITIES PROVIDED NEW LABORATORY OPENED (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, October 11. Mr Baldwin, in opening a new laboratory for safety in mines research at Sheffield, said it was indeed good to think, as he had been assured, that British mines were the safest in the world, but one should not be content with that. The mines must be a great, deal safer both in our country and throughout the world. It was noble work in which political differences and class differences were sunk. He was told there was already an interchange of personnel with America and had information that a similar arrangement had been concluded with France and that preliminary inquiries were being made as to the possibility of extending this system to other countries. He hoped the linking up of this work in all countries where the mining industry was carried on might be complete and that no country would be left out. —British Official Wireless.
