PIGEON FLYING

RACE FROM MILTON. The Southland Homing Pigeon Club flew a pen race from Milton on Saturday, October 6. The weather conditions were very severe and gave the birds some considerable trouble. The first bird to arrive home was bred by his owner and took 2hrs 15 minutes to fly the distance. The second and third birds were also bred by their respective owners. —Following are the results : Mr. Dead Shot 1. Mr. Shaw’s Rin Tin Tin 2. Mr Blue’s Sky Pilot 3. Mr. Gibb also timed in his birds. INVERCARGILL SOCIETY. The above club held a flock race on Saturday, September 22, from Oam aru. The birds were liberated in dull weather with a strong head wind and for the greater part of the journey had to fly through rain. The conditions the birds had to fly against being so bad, the time of the winning bird (seven hours) was quite good under the circumstances. The winning bird turned out to be Mr S. Robson’s Desiree, a very fine type of. hen. Desiree was bred by her owner from his well-known Murihiku strain and fully proved her superiority to the others by winning by over an hour. The second bird, Lady Commander, was bred by Mr Robson off his well known champion Commander. The results were as follows: Mr S. Robson’s b.c.h. Desiree .... 1 Mr C. King’s pl.b.b. Lady Commander 2 Mr J. Hogan’s b.c.c. Harmony .. 3 The points for the championship are as follows:—Mr S. Robson 52, Mr J. ,Hogan 44, Mr L. Henderson 31, Mr C. King 30, Mr L. Hemmingsen 28.
