Northumberland, northern ports, Januarj 18.’ Waikawa, Wellington, February 18. GENERAL NOTES. The Oreti which sailed from Dunedin at 5.30 p.m. yesterday, is due at Invercargill to-day. TJie Harbour Board’s motor vessel Southland (Captain Schofield) made her usual weekly trip to Stewart Island yesterday with passengers, mails and cargo. Her usual sailing day is Wednesday, but she was delayed this week on account of the exceptionally rough weather experienced in the straits. The Port Fremantle is still berthed at Bluff awaiting a consignment of cheese. She will later sail for Wellington and way ports to complete loading. The Waipiata arrived from Dunedin early last evening. She will load and discharge a small quantity of general cargo, sailing to-day for Wellington via ports, weather permitting. The Karetu, from Hobart, Newcastle, Port Stephens and Sydney, via northern ports, arrived at Dunedin yesterday to discharge general cargo. She then proceeds to Bluff being due here on Sunday, sailing again on Tuesday for Sydney. The W’aikawa from Auckland and Nelson was expected to leave Nelson yesterday for Bluff direct, arriving here on Sunday. She will sail for Melbourne on discharge. The Opihi, at present bar-bound at Westport, will sail for Bluff with a cargo of coal as soon as possible. The Calm is due back at Bluff on Monday from Wanganui via coastal ports. After loading general cargo she will sail for the north again the same evening. The Turakina from Liverpool via Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, is expected to arrive at Bluff on the 23rd. The Tainui, from London, is due at Wellington about November 16. She will land her passengers there, and will then proceed to Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff, being due here on November 22. The Canadian Conqueror with 1100 tons of general cargo from Montreal, is due at Bluff on the 20th. The Shaw. Savill and Albion Line steamer lonic arrived at Port Chalmers on Wednesday morning from London and Southampton, via Panama, Wellington, and Auckland. She was berthed at Port Chalmers to load produce and general cargo for England. The lonic left Southampton on August 17 and experienced fine weather during the run across the Atlantic. The vessel passed through the Mona passage into the Caribbean Sea on August 29, and intense heat and cyclonic winds with heavy rain were experienced until she arrived at Colon on September 1. The temperature during this stage varied from 90 degrees to 92 degrees in the shade. The lonic left Panama the following day, and the weather continued fine. Up to September 17 the vessel had averaged over 13 knots, but after that date heavy westerly gales and high seas were encountered and the vessel's arrival at Wellington was delayed.
