Building permits were granted to E. Fowler and J. T. Johnston, subject to the usual conditions. As some persons had erected buildings without a permit the inspector was authorized to interview delinquents. A letter was received from the secretary, Wallace Hospital Board, stating that a maternity annexe was being added to the hospital, but no increase in rates would be made to provide for interest and sinking fund, which would be met out of revenue. It was resolved that a minute of appreciation of the services rendered by Mr Malcolm, the retiring member, be recorded. A chenue for heavy motor license fees was received from the clerk, Invercargill Borough Council, the amount being the board’s share. The following works were approved by the Main Highways Board: Winton-Ohai, maintenance, £126, 30/- for £1; footbridge over Wairio stream, £75, £1 for £1; Wairio road, £3O, 30/- for £l. The following committees were appointed: Finance, Messrs Thomson, Hamilton and Cosgriff; works, Messrs Mason, Sinclair and Cook. The chairman was appointed inspector of works, building and motor traffic. The works committee was authorized to attend to the following: (1) To prepare plans and specifications for footbridge; (2) to have gravel spread on footpaths where most required; (3) to inspect High street west and arrange for a turning place for cars, and to arrange for outfall from water tables; and (4) to inspect alleged overflow at Lee’s corner. With a view to adopting a scheme for permanent footpaths and kerbing, the finance committee was delegated to go into the financial aspect of the matter.
