YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS. At the Police Court yesterday morning, before Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M., a small list of offenders was dealt with. Thomas Parry, who appeared last week on a charge of driving at a speed dangerous to the public, was convicted and ordered to pay Court costs 16/- and witness’s expenses £l, his motor driver’s license being cancelled until March 31, 1929. James English, who did not appear, was charged with driving a car from Tay street into Dee street on the wrong side of the monument, and was fined £l, costs 12/-. William Thomas Hall was charged with driving a car without a tail light, and also with cutting the corner at the monument and was fined £l, costs 10/- on the second charge and was convicted and discharged on the other. Robert Anderson, charged with riding a bicycle without a light, did not appear, but sent a letter pleading guilty, and was fined 10/- without costs. In the case, Maintenance Officer v. George Alexander Purvis (Auckland), for disobedience of a maintenance order, the maintenance officer said that the case was a particularly bad one and asked for a fine. Purvis was convicted and sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment, and also fined £3, the warrant not to be issued if he pays the arrears, £4 17/6, plus £3 5/- before October 20. Alfred William Thornhill, also charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, the amount in arrears being £54, was convicted and sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment, the warrant not to be issued if Thornhill pays £2 a week until the arrears are paid off. William Muir (Wellington) was proceeded against for the maintenance of his two children. An order was made in favour of the complainant for 30/- per week from October 8, and also for past maintenance amounting to £2O, the latter to be paid in instalments of 10/- a week, with £2 2/COBU.
