The Harbour Board's motor vessel Southland did not make the trip to Stewart Island yesterday on account of the exceptionally rough weather. She will sail to-day. The Port Fremantle is still berthed at Bluff waiting for & consignment of cheese before proceeding north to complete loajflj ihg for Home ports. The Waipiata arrived at Dunedin on Tuesday ' afternoon from Auckland, via ports, and was berthed at the Birch Street wharf to discharge general cargo and a quantity of Island fruit. She sailed yesterday morning for Bluff, and is due to arrive here at 6 o’clock this morning, sailing again at noon with general cargo for Dunedin, Timaru and northern ports. The Karetu, from Hobart, Newcastle, Port Stephens and Sydney, via northern ports, is due at Dunedin to-day to discharge general cargo. The vessel’s freight includes transhipments ex the Madras Maru, Caluke, Drama, Tourwing, Marella, Tanda, Mishima Maru, Karmala, Maloja, Comorin, Narkunda, and Cathay, also sawn timber, hardwood poles, and girders. She then proceeds to Bluff being due here on Sunday, sailing again on Tuesday for Sydney. The Waikawa from Auckland and Nelson is expected to leave Nelson to-day for Bluff direct, arriving here on Sunday. She will sail for Melbourne on discharge. The Opihi, at present bar-bound at Westport, will sail for Bluff with a cargo of coal as soon as possible. The Calm is due- back at Bluff next Monday from W'anganui via coastal ports. After loading general cargo she will sail for the north again the same evening. The Turakina from Liverpool via Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, is expected to arrive at Bluff on the 23rd. The Government steamer Tutanekai is expected at Dunedin about Saturday from Wellington and South Island lighthouses. She will load stores befoae sailing for southern and West Coast lighthouses. The Tainui, from London, is due at Wellington about November 16. She will land her passengers there, and will then proceed to Lyt|’lton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff, being due here on November 22. The Canadian Conqueror with 1100 tons of general cargo from Montreal, is due at Bluff on the 20th. The first British cargo vessel to carry plant for burning pulverized coal as fuel is to be equipped on the Tyne by Messrs Clarke, Chapman and Co., Gateshead, for the Blue Star Line. The need for a special boiler has been overcome, and an ordinary boiler is to be used. The coal usually costs about half the price of bunker coal. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
