Mr T. J. Quinn, of Gore, was in Invercargill yesterday. Mr G. Holloway travelled to Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon. Mr H. C. Gimblett, Town Clerk, Bluff, is at present visiting Wellington. Mr C. Phillips, of the local railway office, accompanied by Mrs Phillips, left on holiday for Wanganui by the express yesterday afternoon. Mr J. Aitken, of the Invercargill railway staff, who has been transferred to Wellington, leaves to take up his new duties on Saturday morning. The Rev. Dr. John Dickie, M.A., D.D., who has been in Invercargill conducting the Summer School of Theology, left for Dunedin by the express yesterday afternoon. Mr R. B. Tennant, Superintendent of the Otago branch of the Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, arrived in Invercargill by the express yesterday afternoon. At the meeting of newly appointed commissioners of the Otautau Town Board on Monday evening last, Mr W. J. Wesney was re-appointed chairman for the ensuing two years. A London cable states that Sir Harry Lauder is suffering from a fractured rib sustained while making a film. He has been ordered to make a trip to New Zealand to recuperate. A New Plymouth message announces the death of Mr Murdoch Fraser, aged 80. He came with his parents from Nova Scotia in the vessel Margaret to South Australia, and subsequently to the Waipu Settlement, North Auckland. Since 1892 he had been a prominent business man there and an active participant in public life. Mr Alex. Stevenson, chairman of directors of the Mataura Dairy Factory Company, Limited, has accepted nomination to fill one of the vacancies created by rotation on the directorate of the Southland Cool Stores, Limited. Mr Stevenson has occupied the position of chairman of directors of the Mat aura Company for the past three years, and has been on the directorate of the company for over 30 years. News has been received from Auckland of the death of Mr Charles Illingworth, Town Clerk of Taihape. The late Mr Illingworth was well-known locally and for many years was on the clerical staff of the Borough Council. About 10 years ago he resigned to accept the town clerkship at Mataura and held a similar position at Ohakune and Taihape. The deceased was born in England 53 years ago, and during his residence in Invercargill was prominent in Masonic circles. He leaves a widow to mourn his loss.
