GORE CITIZENS’ CLUB,

SEASON OPENED. (From Our Correspondent.* The Gore Citizens’ Tennis Club opened its 1928-29 season yesterday afternoon, and although the weather conditions were unpleasant, a fairly large number of club members were present. The president, Mr R. P. Boyne, extended a very cordial welcome to visitors and to the club members, and stated that on behalf of the executive it gave him a great deal of pleasure to welcome back old members for the 1928-29 season. He hoped that the season would be as successful as the last one had been and that the club would succeed in regaining sohie of the trophies which it had temporarily lost. While the weather for the opening was not as pleasant as it might, have been, members would be able to play and he hoped that they would spend an enjoyable afternoon. The Citizens’ Club was known for the feeling of good fellowship which existed among its members, and he hoped that this spirit would be in evidence during the coming season. Teams were chosen and members and visitors had a pleasant time on the courts. Gore Anglican Club. There was a fairly large attendance' of members at the official opening of the Gore Anglican Tennis Club’s courts yesterday afternoon, when despite the unfavourable weather conditions, the function proved to be a most enjoyable one. The Rev. J. T. Paddison declared the courts officially opened, and in doing so, said that he was delighted to see so many of the younger members of the church joining in the healthy recreation which the tennis courts provided. Since its formation the club had made very satisfactory progress and this season promised to be a most satisfactory one. Although not, taking part in the inter-club fixtures, it was the intention nf the committee to institute ladder matches and other friendly competitions, wffiich would add interest to the game knd rive encouragement to the younger members.
