CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. . • (From Our Correspondent.) A general meeting of the Wyndham and District Caledonian Society was held on Monday evening, Mr G. Hunter (president) presiding. The following new members were elected to the General Committee: Meters John Woods, Henderson Hunter, J. Henderson, W. G. Leckie, R. Blackburn, D. P. Christie, J. Fraser, A. Crosbie, M. Tangney, E. Sherbourne, J. C. Hannan and P. B. Barnett. Mr Reid said that in conversation with several enthusiasts outside the district he had been urged to endeavour to get a tug-of-war on the programme. He considered it would be a good draw, as well as a star event. If the society could afford it he would like to see a Southland championship staged. A cup could be presented to the winning team, which would be retained by the team for a year. Medals could be presented to the members of the team. He considered it would pay itself. Mr Frame considered that the medals without the cup would be sufficient. It would be a good attraction no doubt. It was finally decided that the advisability of including a tug-of-war on the programme be left in the hands of the Programme Committee to deal with. A member mentioned that a good star attraction, as well as a novelty was musical chairs on bicycles. This suggestion was also noted for consideration by the Programme Committee. After a general review of the programme it was accepted as suitable by the meeting. Mr Reid said that he had attended the annual meeting of the centre at Riversdale on Saturday, and had been cordially received. The association was pleased that Wyndham had organized a society and trusted that they would have a good career. The date of the annual meeting. January 16, 1929, was approved of by the Centre. On the motion of Messrs Smart and H. Macdonald, it was decided that all appointed officials meet two nights before the sports meeting to receive final instructions in respect to their duties. Mr J. Burns said that several had approached him to run a dance at the conclusion of the picture entertainment on the 17th. and he asked for the opinion of the meeting. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs Leckie’s Orchestra, while acceptable extras were supplied by Miss and Mr Caldwell. During the evening a song was sung by Mr Douglas Leckie, while a pianoforte duet by the Misses Clarke was much appreciated. The duty of floor masters was capably carried out by Messrs J. Woods and V.
