OAK OF WAIKIWI LODGE. A full attendance of officers and members of the Oak of Waikiwi Lodge was presided over by the Arch Druid Brother Watson on Wednesday, the sth inst. The absence of local sick members on the Lodge funds was favourably commented upon. An appeal from the secretary of the London Lodge countersigned by the secretary of the Grand Lodge of Otago and Southland was received on behalf of a distressed member of Lindon and met with the usual and unanimous response. A ViceVArch. Druid ritual competition was held during the evening under the jurisdiction of the Royal Arch Chapter Past Grand President Bro. Barham and Past District President Bro. Steele acting as judges of elocution and accuracy respectively. Of the six members who competed two received the possible points in accuracy, namely, Past Arch Bro. Boivin and Arch Druid Bro. Harrison of Acorn Lodge. Bro. Boivin won by two points in elocution and the decision was received with applause. Past District President Royal Arch Secretary Bro. Gregg, on behalf of the Royal Arch Chapter, presented the trophy a decorated silver crescent to the winner, who was heartily congratulated on his success. After votes of thanks had been extended to the Royal Arch Chapter, the judges and visiting brethren for their attendance and replies received the Lodge closed in harmony. ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER. A large and enthusiastic meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter was held in the United Friendly Society’s Hall on Friday, the Bth inst. The report from the judges of the various competitions held during the month were received and the judges thanked for same. Acorn Lodge was declared the winner of the Royal Arch Chapter Shield, having beaten Waikiwi Lodge by three points. Waikiwi Lodge put up a great performance in accuracy ,being only five pointe off the possible 100, beating Acorn by ten points. But Waikiwi failed sadly in decorum and effects and in elocution. Vice Arch Druid Bro. Frampton, of Acorn Lodge, had an easy win during the month for the champion gold medal and Past Arch Bro. Boivin won the Vice Arch competition held at Waikiwi, a Past Arch Druid of Waikiwi Lodge having qualified for the Advanced Dregree in Druidism was duly initiated in a very impressive manner by the District President Royal Arch Druid Bro. Donaldson, ably assisted by Past District President Royal Arch Secretary Bro. Gregg and other officers of the Chapter. After concluding the business of the meeting the members sat down to a sumptuous repast provided by Past District President Bro. Steele and Royal Vice Arch Druid Bro. Flegg. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to these Bros, for their generosity. The toast of honour of the evening “The Ladies” was very ably handled by Past Grand President Bro. Barham and Royal Arch Druid Bard McColl and sung with musical honours. Interesting items were rendered by Past Royal Arch Druid Bro. J. Strathearn of Acorn Lodge and Past Arch Bro. Fraser of Gore Lodge. The singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” and Auld Lang Syne concluded an enjoyable evening.
