GEARLESS CAR
AN EXPLANATION. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, September 8. The gear of the gearless car which has caused a sensation in the motor world is operated mechanically by means of an automatic governor, bodyweight type, within the fly-wheel, which is actuating the mechanism according to the speed of the flywheel itself. The accelerator pedal is the only control required. The gears can be changed up or down as the engine speed demands. Neutral gear is engaged automatically if there is any risk of the engine stopping through excessive low speed. It is understood that the cost of installing it in old cars is in the neighbourhood of £lOO. —Australian Press Association.
