HEDGEHOPE NEWS

MR AND MRS BUCKLEY FAREWELLED. (From Our Correspondent.) A social and dance was held in the hall on Tuesday, July 10, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Buckley, who are leaving the district. Despite the inclemency of the weather the hall was well filled for the occasion. The music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Stuck, extras being played by Mr McDonald, Mr G. Diamond and Mrs McMasters. Mr G. Sanderson acted as Master of Ceremonies. After an enjoyable supper Mr Jukes, the chairman referred to the good work Mr Buckley had done for the district in which he had become so popular. Widespread regret had been expressed when it became known that he had been transferred to Invercargill. On behalf of the district he then presented Mr Buckley with a roll of notes, and wished him and Mrs Buckley every success in their new home. Messrs James Sutherland, T. Hanning and A. Skinner also spoke in eulogistic terms of the good work Mr Buckley had done. After the singing of “For they are jolly good fellows,” Mr Buckley feelingly responded. Dancing was then indulged in till the early hours of the morning. PRESENTATION FROM RAILWAY EMPLOYEES. On Saturday evening last at a very enjoyable smoke concert the railway employees presented Mr Buckley with a handsome pipe and tobacco pouch and a box of stainless knives for Mrs Buckley.
