FAIR PLAY
A GOOD WORD FOR MR J. R. HAMILTON. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, July 13. The sporting nature of Mr J. R. Hamilton (Awarua) and his keen sense of what is and what is not fair play, gave a pleasant note to to-day’s debate in the House. The Speaker had rung the bell which warns members that their time is nearly up and at this stage Mr Hamilton was coming to some matters of Southland interest on which he wished to speak. “It is a pity my time is up,” he said, “for I have a quarrel with the Minister of Public Works. He put some money on the estimates for a wharf at Stewart Island and with the other hand he has taken it way.” The Minister, the Hon. K. S. Williams, moved that Mr Hamilton’s time be extended and the House agreed. “I thank the Minister and the House very much for extending my time,” Mr Hamilton said, “but I will not take advantage of it. I was going to quarrel with the Minister of Public Works but I am not going to use my extension for that. It is not fair.” Mr Williams: No, no, go on. Mr Hamilton: No, it would not be cricket. There will be other times yet and I will reserve my remarks until then.
