JOINT CELEBRATION
CATHOLICS AND PROTESTANTS. A CANADIAN SUGGESTION. Ottawa, July 12. A dramatic and sensational move to stimulate the observance of Canada’s national day came on the eve of the twelfth of July celebrations from Colonel R. A. Stacey, for seven years Grand Chaplain of the Orange Order in Ontario. He urged Catholics and Protestants to hold a joint celebration on July 1 instead of the French-Canadians St. Jean Baptist day on June 24 and Orange day on July 12. Great weight is attached to the suggestion because Ontario is overwhelmingly Orange. At Toronto to-day there was a parade of 10,000 strong.—Australian Press Association.
