THRILLING RESCUE
Two Castaways Saved Professor Malmgren Dead Faced The End Alone Companions Implored to Leave (United Frees Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) MOSCOW, July 12. The Russian ice-breaker Krassin has rescued Zappi and Mariano, but Professor Malmgren has been dead a month. The Krassin at 6.40 a.m. found Malmgren’s companions 80.39 north and 26.07 east. Mariano and Zappi were cheerful though they had not eaten for 13 days. The Krassin took them aboard and continued in the direction of Viglieri’s party, 20 miles away. Latest reports show good progress and much free water. Zappi, who was half frozen and exhausted when found, said he had abandoned hope. One of his legs is useless. Malmgren’s body is aboard the Krassin which is continuing the effort to reach Viglieri’s party.—Australian Press Association.
