OTERAMIKA HALL

CONCERT BY GORE PARTY. HALL FUNDS BENEFIT. On Friday evening a most enjoyable concert in aid of the Hall Funds was given in the Otaramika Hall by Miss M. Jopp’s party from Gore. Unfortunately ’ the weather conditons were far from pleasant and only a fair attendance greeted the performance. Nevertheless it is anticipated that a fair surplus will be available towards the reduction of the debt on the hall, the original cost of which was £BO9. The debt on June 30 stood at £3OO, but since that date the debt has been further reduced by approximately £lOO as the result of entertainments of various kinds. The hall is an excellent one and members of Miss Jopp’s party, who have had considerable experience in concert work, congratulated the committee upon having one of the most comfortable and up-to-date halls they had had the pleasure of performing in. Mr J. Hoddinot presided and expressed appreciation of Miss Jopp’s party in giving their services.

The programme was a nicely varied one and the individual items were enthusiastically received by the audience, encores being the order of the evening. The programme was as follows: — Violin solo, “Gallop,” encore, Spanish Dance, Miss S. Latham; solo, “Young Tom O’ Devon,” encore, “Sweet Early Violets,” Mr E. Ottrey; solo, “Danny Boy,” encore, “Meadow Sweet,” Miss Milne; humorous recitation, “Chairman’s Remarks,” encore, ‘‘Pilgrims of the Night,” Mr G. Paterson; Spanish dance, encored, Miss May Thorn; solo, “When the Sergeant Major’s on Parade,” encore, “Because I were Shy,” Mr R. L. Stevenson; solo, “Melisande in the Wood,” encore, “Philosophy,” Miss M. Jopp; humorous sketch, encored, Mr C. McLeod; solo, “Sing Sweet Bird,” encore, “A Will-in-a-Wisp,” Miss Ella Hinchey; comic song, “Married to the Wife,” encore, “Susie McLean,” Mr G. Pat- , erson; violin solo, “Hungarian Dance,” encore, “Bercause,” Miss S. Latham; solo, “Muleteer of Mulayar,” encore, “Ships that Pass in the Night,” Mr E. Ottrey; solo, “Sunshine and Butterflies,” encore, “Mifanwy,” Miss Milne; Irish hornpipe, encore, “Waltz Clog,” Miss May Thorn; solo, “Wimmen O Wimmen,” encore, “When the House is Asleep,” Mr R. L. Stevenson; solo, “Three Fishers,” encore, “Down Here,” Miss M. Jopp; humorous sketches, encored, Mr C. McLeod; solo, ‘Still as the Night,” encore, “A Little Old Garden,” Miss Ella Hinchey; comic song, “Ninety Four,” encore, “Heilan Jazz,” Mr G. Paterson. Miss D. Carmody, L.A.8., acted as accompaniste.

At the conclusion of the concert Mr J. Birch, on behalf of the Hall Committee, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the party and expressed appreciation on their travelling such a long distance to assist the committee. He also expressed the hope that the residents would be given another opportunity of hearing such a fine entertainment. The vote of thanks was carried with cheers and musical honours. The party were most hospitably entertained and prior to the concert were the guests of Mr J. Milne at tea, and later were entertained at supper by the Hall Com-

mittee. After the concert a most successful dance was held.
