DAIRY EXPORTS

SHIPMENT THROUGH BLUFF. LETTER FROM DAIRY PRODUCE BOARD. At yesterday’s meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board the following letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board:— “You can rest assured that wherever possible we arrange for direct shipment at Bluff. The shipping companies themselves prefer to have the shipments at Bluff ii they can so arrange, but there are times when for small quantities they will not go to Bluff and it is necessary then to transfer the produce to Dunedin or elsewhere. You will realize that it would be scarcely fair to penalize the dairy companies who are wishing their cheeses shipped by retaining it at Bluff until a direct steamer is available when the quantity to be shipped is small. You can rest assured that we do everything possible to arrange for direct shipments from ports wherever possible. We are quite sure that the efforts of your board to reduce charges have been very much appreciated by the producers in Southland Considerable prominence was given to this at the South Island Dairy Association Conference.”
