VALUELESS CHEQUES

IMPRISONMENT IMPOSED.

Nathaniel John Reed appeared on remand for sentence at the Police Court yesterday morning before Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M., when the Probation Officer’s report was submitted following on the case heard against Reed on Wednesday.

Four charges had been preferred against him, namely, obtaining money and goods with intent to commit fraud by means of valueless cheques signed by him and given on May 30 and 31 at Riverton in payment of accounts for lodging, drinks, petrol and motor-car repairs. The total amount involved was £lB 4/-. The Probation Officer (Mr C. G. L. Pollock) said he could not recommend probation.

The Magistrate commented upon the unsatisfactory situation in connection with Reed and convicted and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment on the charge concerning the cheque for £6 4/-, and on the other charges he was convicted and discharged
